Grangegorman Histories presents ‘Beyond the Walls’, a new exhibition about the history of Grangegorman opening in September 2026.
Situated in the new TU Dublin Academic Hub, formerly the site of the St Brendan’s North House, Grangegorman Histories invites you to the new exhibition, ‘Beyond the Walls’.
For centuries Grangegorman was a place of confinement and care. Within its walls were a workhouse, an asylum and a prison, where lives were shaped by hardship – and sometimes hope. Patients, prisoners, inmates and staff all left their mark on this ground. This exhibition invites you to step into their world – a world where the poor and mentally ill had little choice, where a spell in an overcrowded institution was sometimes better than remaining outside these walls. Today, as Grangegorman is transformed into an open, vibrant space, the past still lingers in its buildings, its landscape and its memory.
‘Beyond the Walls’ will open in September 2026.
