HELP DESK – Architecture, Technology & the Future, is a student-led workshop and discussion based event organised by the Architecture Student Curators taking place at the Linenhall Gallery on Thursday May 7th.
Building on last year’s Ecochella architecture climate festival, this year’s event explores the evolving relationship between architecture, technology and architecture working culture. Framed around the idea of an IT “help desk,” the event will move across three speculative timeframes—past, present, and future—inviting participants to reflect on how architectural practice, tools, and concerns have shifted over time.
The workshops are roleplay based, each participant will be given a role, for example draftsperson, boss, modelmaker etc and also given a task with a brief to complete within a time period eg 1996, 2026. The tasks will be the same for the different time-skips but the technology won’t!
We want to know what did architectural practice look like before digital technology?
How does technology shape our work today?
What might architecture look like beyond our current technological moment?
We are particularly interested in engaging practitioners like yourself to contribute to these conversations—bringing critical insight, experience, and perspective to each “time-skip.”
The event will take place on May 7th from 10am-3pm.
At the end of the day we gather our work and predictions for the future and seal them inside a time capsule that will be open in 2036.
We would be delighted if you could join us for what promises to be an open, critical, and engaging afternoon of discussion.
Please Sign up via link in bio before Friday May 1st.
