Waterways Ireland and Dublin City Council invite you to attend the launch of the report The Grand Canal Recreation Activation and Animation: Portobello to Kylemore Road at Richmond Barracks on Friday 27 January at 11:00am.
In 2021, the project partners commissioned Irish Leisure Consultants to explore the feasibility of developing activity hubs along this section of the Grand Canal in Dublin. Despite having one of the longest stretches of the canal in the city centre with no locks to navigate, the area has limited on-water activity at present.
Through extensive local engagement and drawing on national and global insights, the report presents a series of recommendations to enable a collaborative and sustainable approach to unlock the potential of the Grand Canal and its towpaths for local communities and visitors.
