‘Threshold’ is a shared reading event and play about a moment of tension that ensues when a stranger appears and requests to be let in. The whole show takes place in this tension, on the threshold. We never really get in.

It is an invitation to dwell on the perennial question of the stranger’s arrival and the profoundly beautiful system that humans in every corner of the earth have created for facing this dilemma.

Biography

Jennie Moran is a visual artist whose work explores hospitality as a creative and connective philosophy. Blending sculpture, food and performance, she started a nomadic hospitality project called Luncheonette in 2013 which operated as the canteen in the National College of Art and Design in Dublin and was named Irish Café of the year at the 2019 Food and Wine Awards.

Jennie is the author of “How to Soften Corners” - a friendly, poetic guide to welcoming people. It is an exploration into the philosophy of hospitality, with some practical insight. Jennie was named Best Emerging Voice at the Irish Food Writing Awards. It is intended for individuals and organisations who bring humans together and value opportunities for shared connection.

settle

The lecture takes place within ‘settle’ – a temporary installation designed and conceived by TRESTLE that proposes a new public interior for gathering and collective experience in the contemporary city. Inspired by the functionalism and adaptability of Irish vernacular furniture, the installation explores how an infrastructure of considered objects can formulate a new, albeit temporary, public interior. The installation can be recast and reformatted to host a variety of events and gatherings – in this way it acts as an extended invitation to the city. settle was the recipient of a 2026 Arts Council Architecture Project Award and runs in Cork City from 29 July – 8 August 2026 with a programme of events.

TRESTLE is a studio for architecture and research based between Ireland and London. The practice defines architecture as landscapes, cities, buildings, rooms and objects. TRESTLE was founded by Tom Cookson and Sarah Carroll in 2025.
