To celebrate Culture Night with Open House Limerick, we invite the public to join us for ‘What Lies Beneath’, a guided walking tour of St Mary’s Cathedral grounds led by archaeologist John Elliott.

For over 850 years, St Mary's Cathedral has dominated the skyline of the historic core of Limerick City. Join archaeologist John Elliott on a tour of the cathedral grounds, where the history of the development of the building will be gleaned from the surviving medieval fabric. The tour will also investigate elements of the medieval streetscape of the city that survive in the cathedral grounds. This Culture Night tour forms part of the Open House Limerick 2021 Architectural Festival.

This event begins at Merchant Quay, in front of St Mary’s Cathedral at 6pm on 17 September, and will last for approximately 1 hour. This project is funded by Limerick City and County Council Culture & Arts Office.
