Frederick Hervey, the ‘Earl Bishop’, was one of the most extraordinary characters of the eighteenth century. In this talk, Peter Fox, who has recently published an edition of the Earl Bishop’s correspondence, will discuss the Bishop’s passion for building in his diocese of Derry, especially his two grand houses, Downhill and Ballyscullion, as seen through the prism of his letters and those of his architects.

Light Refreshments: 6.30 – 7pm. Lecture to start promptly at 7pm.

Location: The Old Museum Building, 7 College Square North, Belfast BT1 6AR

Please note that due to the historic nature of The Old Museum Building, access is via a flight of stone steps. We regret that it is currently unsuitable for wheelchair users.
