The Irish premiere of two newly commissioned films celebrating publicly funded architectural projects will screen on 20 February, 12:00 at Light House Cinema as part of the Dublin International Film Festival (DIFF).

Commissioned by the Office of Public Works, the films "Circle" and "Threshold", directed by acclaimed filmmaker Patrick Voigt (9 sekunden), explore the role of architecture and design in delivering major public infrastructure, foregrounding lived experience, community impact and long-term public value for many.

"Circle" documents the completion of the Arklow Wastewater Treatment Plant after a 35-year wait, reflecting on the social and environmental impact of essential infrastructure. "Threshold" explores the redevelopment of the 20-hectare port, told through local perspectives. These film commissions are framed through Ireland’s National Policy on Architecture: Places for People.

The screening will be followed by a Q&A discussion chaired by IAF Director Emmett Scanlon, with filmmaker Patrick Voigt, Olwyn James (Senior Planner, Uisce Éireann Irish Water) and Maureen Dalton (Principle Officer, Revenue (Ireland)) examining how architecture, infrastructure and public investment can deliver meaningful value for the existing and emerging communities they serve.

This event has booked out, but there is a waiting list through DIFF.

Irish Architecture Foundation

About With a focus on public audiences and established in 2005, the Irish Architecture Foundation (IAF) is Ireland’s independent organisation that fosters and advances the culture and communication of architecture. Based in Dublin, but with a national remit and an international network, our purpose is to empower people to build a better world. A not-for-profit charity, the IAF is principally funded by the Arts Council / An Chomhairle Ealaíon. It is additionally funded by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, under the auspices of the National Built Heritage Services; the Office of Public Works; and Dublin City Council. Across an increasingly broad range of events, programmes, and exhibitions, the IAF partners with individuals, organisations, government agencies, education institutions and civil society groups to ensure that our work builds civic pride and action and that outcomes are impactful and transformative.
