Tipperary Town's Heritage Action Plan identifies the need to review the town's 'narrow' Architectural Conservation Area (ACA). This project highlights the ability of a town's ACA to capture a place's distinctive special quality, not only through its built heritage but also through its stories. It is hoped that this project will be considered by the LA Planning Dept when reviewing the ACA.
In addition, the project will capture 'the voice of young people as they explore their role in revitalising their historic town centre'. Young people have yet to be fully included in the realities of policy making and planning practice. This proposal aims to change this through a series of student led workshops throughout Heritage Week, (building on previous youth workshops on regeneration practice). During Heritage Week young people will be invited to participate in place making activities, model making, art and junk art workshops, expert led talks on building re-use as well as a youth photography competition.
